SPORT AS MEDICINE, CULTURE AS STRENGTH
Our Program Pillars
Empowering Native youth and adults with physical disabilities through movement, mentorship, and athletic development across Indian Country
At Tribal Adaptive, we use sport as medicine to improve the health, wellness, and independence of Native Americans with physical disabilities across Indian Country
From providing custom equipment and hosting reservation clinics at zero cost to participants, to building inclusive school programs and pipelines for collegiate and elite competition, our initiatives break down physical and geographic barriers
Start Learning to Drive Today
For many years, we have been helping people of all ages learn to drive.

Adaptive Sports
Through the Thunderbirds Para-Sports Club—Indian Country’s first competitive para-sports club—Tribal Adaptive provides Native Americans with physical disabilities access to year-round, high-quality adaptive athletic instruction and specialized equipment at zero cost to the athlete
Our club disciplines span a broad spectrum of dynamic sports, including wheelchair basketball, handcycling, para-archery, wheelchair tennis, para-track and field, para-golf, wheelchair lacrosse, wheelchair softball, and mountain biking
Because high-performance adaptive sports gear often costs thousands of dollars, financial hardship frequently prevents Native individuals from engaging in physical activity
program
Youth & Schools/K–12
In many rural reservation communities, K–12 public and tribal schools lack the specialized gear, adaptive coaching experience, and inclusive curriculum necessary to accommodate students with physical disabilities
Our mobile outreach teams travel directly to reservation schools, bringing sports wheelchairs, handcycles, and adaptive athletic gear directly into gymnasium settings
Beyond direct student instruction, we offer professional development and consulting for physical education teachers, school coaches, and community recreation directors. We equip educators with adaptive coaching strategies, safety protocols, and inclusion frameworks so schools can sustain inclusive sports long after our visits

Athlete Development
The Adaptive Athlete Leadership Pathway Program serves as Tribal Adaptive’s engine for long-term athletic growth, youth empowerment, and collegiate advancement
Central to this pillar is our peer-to-peer mentoring network and leadership development curriculum, which pair emerging Native athletes with experienced adaptive sports veterans, collegiate competitors, and national champions
To open doors for higher education, Tribal Adaptive establishes direct recruitment pathways with elite university adaptive athletic programs, including the University of Arizona Adaptive Athletics and the University of Illinois
program
Outdoor Access
For Indigenous peoples, physical health, emotional wellness, and cultural identity are deeply connected to a relationship with the land
Our outdoor initiatives cover a diverse range of activities, including handcycling, adaptive mountain biking, paragolf, monoskiing, accessible camping, and wilderness trail excursions
Through our gear library, athletes and families can access off-road handcycles, mountain trikes, and specialized outdoor equipment for personal and community outings. Restoring physical access to natural environments nurtures bodily strength, mental healing, and personal freedom

Indigenous Parasport Expansion
Approximately 25% of Native Americans living on reservations have a physical disability—double the U.S. national average—yet Indian Country has historically faced a complete lack of dedicated parasport infrastructure
Through regional outposts, community consulting, and event series like "The Medicine of Movement," we are scaling our model across tribal communities in New Mexico, Arizona, South Dakota, Colorado, and beyond
Additionally, our expansion work elevates Native representation within elite and Paralympic athletic pipelines
