The Need

Disparities in Indian Country

  • Extreme Geographic Isolation: Most Native individuals with disabilities live in rural reservation areas with zero access to adaptive sports facilities, specialized coaches, or physical therapy.

  • Severe Underrepresentation: Native Americans represent less than 0.5% of all U.S. Paralympic athletes, despite experiencing higher rates of physical disability.

  • Lack of Infrastructure: Before Tribal Adaptive, no tribal-specific adaptive sports infrastructure or competitive sports clubs existed in Indian Country.

  • Health Crisis: Native communities face disproportionately high rates of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and trauma-related mobility impairments.

25% Reservation Disability Rate

One in four Native Americans living on reservations has a physical disability—double the U.S. national average.

The Results

Tribal Adaptive Solutions

  • First Competitive Para-Sports Club: Established The Thunderbirds, Indian Country's first competitive para-sports team.

  • Dedicated Training Campus: Built and operates the AWH House in Kirtland, New Mexico—a residential high-performance training facility built specifically for Native adaptive athletes.

  • Direct Athlete Investment: 100% of donor investments go directly to athletes for adaptive equipment, travel support, and training.

  • Collegiate Pathways: Created recruitment and training pipelines linking Native youth directly to university adaptive athletic programs.

Four Corners Anchor Hub

  • HQ & Residential Campus: Kirtland, New Mexico (Four Corners region) serves as the operational home of Tribal Adaptive and the AWH House residential training facility.

  • Facility Features: On-site residential accommodations, specialized equipment storage, strength and conditioning space, and court access designed for high-performance parasport camps.

Regional Outposts & Tribal Nation Reach

  • School & Community Outreach: Conducting mobile clinics across Navajo Nation, Hopi, Pascua Yaqui, Zuni, and Plains tribal communities.
  • Event Locations: Hosting multi-sport showcases and leadership summits across New Mexico, Arizona, and South Dakota.
